What to send us
You may submit up to ten (10) photos for your announcement or invitation. Always send us the original, unedited and uncropped photo, for us to get the most out of each picture. We will digitally enhance your photos if necessary, and scanning and photo enhancing are always free. We can digitally enhance your photos to get the best quality, and can even change them from color, to black and white, or sepia, or even do photo colouration if that's what you prefer-- all at no extra cost to you.
Please submit your image(s) to us as a jpeg (.jpg) file. Please note that professionally taken photos must be accompanied by a copyright release form signed by your photographer. Click here for a form you can print out.
We will send you notification of your photo card being completed, for you to privately view and approve of online, before we print your order.
Traditional Prints
Using a 35mm auto-focus camera with a flash is the best way to go, with 200 speed film (this size and speed of film will capture the most detail and will lessen the amount of grain that you see). Develop your pictures on high-quality glossy paper (kodak or fuji is the preferred type). Please do not send us images printed from an inkjet or photo printer - the quality is not high enough for scanning. If you choose to send traditional prints to us, they will be returned to you unharmed with your order.
Digital Prints
Send us your digital prints via email or on a cd by mail post. Your image(s) must be at least 1152 x 864 pixels (16 x 12 at 72 dpi) in size and please note that photo CD images are typically too low in resolution (usually 640 x 480). Use the highest resolution setting on your digital camera (try using the ISO 200 setting), and send a high quality, jpeg image. Low resolution digital camera images typically use under 200kb in disk space. A high-res file will usually use 1mb or more.
Tips on taking pictures
Newborns/Babies/Toddlers
Wait to photograph a newborn until he or she is at least one week old. Pastel or solid colors are a good way to go, and make the setting/background as simple as possible.
Photograph your baby on solid colored backgrounds such as a blanket or a sheet. Take pictures from several different poses, but don't make it too posed. Natural is always better. A good and easy trick is to take your blanket or sheet over an infant carrier and place the baby there for a nice and relaxed pose. If you choose to use more than one image for you photo card, make sure to take different facial expressions, body angles, and good close up shots of his or her face. For toddlers, again natural pictures are best, and shots of your little one walking in the back yard or in a park will work as well. The more pictures you take, the more choices you will have in selecting the ones you want to submit to us.
Kids and Adults
Solid colored clothing are again preferred: black, white, or any color with a lot of contrast.
For graduation or engagement pictures, taking photos of your subject(s) outdoors is ideal because the light is better at that time of day. Be mindful of the background in the shot. Different, but natural poses are essential for the best shots. For an engagement or just married announcements, have the couple in natural poses, looking at each other or walking away or towards you while hand in hand.
Remember to take as many pictures as you feel you need to get those few that you will love. With traditional film, bring several rolls. If you are using a digital camera, make sure to have at least a 32mb card and an extra one if you wish.
